TARNANTHI 2017
Art Gallery of South Australia Project, Tarnanthi Festival 2017
The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) has been partnering with Senior Men on the Kulata Tjuta project since its inception in 2010. In 2016, Nici Cumpston, the Indigenous Curator at the AGSA, approached the APY Art Centre Collective with a proposal for a large scale Kulata Tjuta installation. Senior men have begun the work, which will be launched as a vital part of the 2017 Tarnanthi Festival program. The work is a collective response to the Maralinga Bombing (1956-1963) and will involve over 600 spears made by over 100 Anangu Men, making it the largest rendition to date.
